Generally, commercial websites are divided into eight categories namely search and portal, storage and infrastructure, information, entertainment, communication and social networking, e commerce, brand and personal identity, and crime.

Search and portal sites like Google, Yahoo!, Live, and Baidu (the popular Chinese search engine), are four of the top ten sites globally according to hits. Many people utilizes search engines to find the information which is required.

Storage and infrastructure sites will offer file hosting such as Rapidshare and Hotfile, ad networks such as Doubleclick and Clicksor, and content delivery networks such as Akamai are the most heavily trafficked destinations on the Internet.

Informational websites which mainly host information comprises of sites like Internet Movie Database (imbd.com) and TV.com. A host of other sites maintain archives, most notably newspaper and magazine websites like nytimes.com, CNN.com, and the Weatherchannel.com. Other informational websites are tens of thousands of blog sites on which users disclose information about several different topics. Most of the analysts use different categories to divide these sites, like sports, health, news, etc.

Entertainment sites comprises of free and open video sharing sites like YouTube and its Chinese counterpart Tudou, and also commercial streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, are famous online destinations. Entertainment sites consists of websites like NBA.com and NFL.com, and also gaming sites like poker.com and World of Warcraft. These sites are constantly including video. This category also has sites hosting pornography, which are in the top 100 sites globally in traffic.

Social networking and communication sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, and Mixi (popular Japanese social networking site) help users to be in touch with friends and professional colleagues. Sites like Twitter and qq.com, help users to quickly interact with each other. Sites like Flickr and Photobucket help users to share pictures and services like Scribd and Google Docs help users to share and assist documents.

Websites that support selling of products or services financially consists of both Web pure-play (online only) companies like Amazon, eBay, eSurance, Mint.com, and Taobou (the eBay of China), and also the millions of websites of brick-and-click businesses (conduct business on Internet and also at physical location), like BarnesandNoble.com or Borders.com.

Websites are designed by companies for customer service or general brand promotion and by individuals who have established websites to promote individual identity on the Web (informational and non-transactional in nature). Personal websites and blogs play major role in assisting people to find and learn more about each other.

Choosing the efficient Operating System is depends on several factors. Whether it is for personal use or for office use, choosing the OS platform is the vital part of long-term plan, as it can’t be changed often. You need to consider your requirements both short-term and long-term and the features of Windows and UNIX before choosing the OS.

The following are the some of the important features and properties of the two Operating Systems that will help you to understand them better.

1.Multi-User System: Windows OS is designed to be used by one person at a time, whereas multiple persons can share UNIX OS at a time in a network.

2.Security: Windows users are burdened with the need for anti-virus and anti-spyware software. On the other side, for UNIX it is not required, as it is more secure than Windows.

3.Bugs: UNIX has a reputation for fewer bugs (programming mistakes) than Windows.

4.Performance: Under low-stress conditions, both have similar performance. However, under high load, UNIX is superior to Windows.

5.Simplicity: To operate UNIX OS we need a little knowledge of Character User Interface, whereas it is very simple to operate Windows OS.

6.Compatibility: If you designed a website under a UNIX server you can easily host it on the Windows server, but the reverse is not always possible.

7.Website Hosting: If you want to use MySQL as backend then go for UNIX. If you need MSSQL as backend then Windows OS is a better option.

8.Application Software: You will get Application software along with UNIX OS package, whereas with Windows you won’t get it.

9.Run the OS without installing it: UNIX can be run with Live CD even without installing it. Windows cannot run until it is installing into hard disk.

10.File System: UNIX protects data with Journalized file system, while Windows uses both journalized and non-journalized file systems. There is less protection of data with the non-journalized file systems.

11.Fragmentation: UNIX file system doesn’t suffer from file fragmentation but Windows file system will be, which results a single file may scatter all over the hard disk as fragments.

12.Crossing the OS boundary: Some Application softwares written for UNIX will not run under Windows and vice versa.

13.Placing User Data: UNIX stores all user data in the home directory making it much easier to migrate from an old computer to new one. On the other hand, Windows stores data anywhere in the hard disk making it hard to backup files when switching to a new computer.

14.Hardware Compatibility: UNIX can run on different hardware platforms but Windows can’t.

15.Supported hardware devices: UNIX supports less hardware devices than Windows.

16.Ability to run without GUI: UNIX can run without Graphical User Interface so it needs less hardware horsepower than Windows.

17.Price: You can get a copy of genuine UNIX free of cost, whereas you have to buy Windows OS.

The two Operating Systems serve different purposes. The above information helps you to choose the better one that suits your requirements.

Cars with GPS facility are the latest trend when it comes to the security is concerned. If you have a job that requires as much traveling as mine does, or if you want to ensure your personal well-being wherever you go, you should look at your options for installing a GPS tracking system in your car.

Nowadays, the tracking system is being included in cars directly from the manufacturer. If your car was made before the wave of GPS standards, there are many outlets on the internet through which you can locate a online provider of GPS system that will fit your needs.
One of the best things about GPS technology is its ability to always find out on what road you are if you get lost. You can get a GPS, which will tell you your exact speed, where you are and your average time to destination at the present rate and accumulated time, speed and distance, WOW.

Another important feature about the GPS is the anti theft system. You can trace your car wherever on earth, in case it was stolen.

I found great use of the GPS when I was stranded in a traffic jam and don’t know how to reach my destination. In such cases this is really a godly gadget.

After innovating many services in the web, Google is set to bring its innovation, which doesn’t include web.

Google has announced its new offline Gmail service. Using this service, people can access to their gmail account even on offline. This new feature is yet to add up to the gmail accounts and once it is done, people can get access to this offline gmail service.

Gmail labs developed a set of programming tools named Gears. This tool facilitates web developers to create off line versions of web-based applications. This very tool is to be used in the new Gmail offline version.

When gmail user accesses to his account his hard drive is synchronized with Gmail servers. Thus, the Gmail’s usual tools become functional offline. When the connection is lost, Gmail automatically switches to offline mode. Here you can perform all the other functions except sending or receiving mails.

For example, you can compose a mail but it isn’t delivered. Instead, it is stored in your outbox. Once the connection is reestablished, your composed mail will be delivered.

A traction control system (TCS), on current production vehicles, is typically electro-hydraulic systems designed to prevent loss of traction and therefore the control of the vehicle when the driver applies excessive throttle or steering. Although similar to electronic stability control systems, traction control systems do not have the same goal.

The intervention can consist of any, or all, of the following:

Retard or suppress the spark to one or more cylinders

Reduce fuel supply to one or more cylinders

Brake one or more wheels

Close the throttle, if the vehicle is fitted with drive by wire throttle.

In turbo-charged vehicles, the boost control solenoid can be actuated to reduce boost and therefore engine power.

Typically, the traction control system shares the brake actuator and the wheel speed sensors with the anti-lock braking system.

Use of traction control

In road cars:
Traction control has traditionally been a safety feature in high-performance cars, which would otherwise need very sensitive throttle input to keep them from spinning when accelerating, especially in wet or snowy conditions. In recent years, traction control systems have become widely available in non-performance cars, minivans, and light trucks.

In race cars:
Traction control is used as a performance enhancement, allowing maximum traction under acceleration without wheel spin. When accelerating out of turn, it keeps the tires at the optimum slip ratio.

In off road vehicles:
Traction control is used instead or in addition to the mechanical limited slip or locking differential. It is often implemented with electronic limited slip differential, as well as other computerized controls of the engine and transmission. The spinning wheel is slowed down with short applications of brakes, diverting more torque to the non-spinning wheel. This form of traction control has an advantage over a locking differential as steering and control of a vehicle is easier, so the system can be continuously enabled. It also creates less stress on the drive train, which is particularly important to the vehicles with an independent suspension that is generally weaker compared to solid axles. On the other hand, only half of the available torque will be applied to a wheel with traction, compared to a locked differential, and handling is less predictable.

It is widely thought that TC removes some skill and control from the driver. As such it is unpopular with many motorsports fans. Some motorsports series have given up trying to outlaw TC. With current state of technology, it is possible to implement TC as a part of software in ECU, and as such it is very hard to detect by scrutineers. Very effective yet small units are also available through a company in the US, Davis Technologies that allow the driver to remove the traction control system after an event if desired. In Formula One, an effort to ban TC has led to the change of rules for 2008: every car must have a standard ECU, issued by FIA, which is relatively basic and does not have TC capabilities.

In telephony, call control refers to the software within a telephone switch that supplies its central function. Call control decodes addressing information and routes telephone calls from one end point to another. It also creates the features that can be used to adapt standard switch operation to the needs of users. Common examples of such features are “Call Waiting”, “Call Forward on Busy”, and “Do Not Disturb”.

Call control software, because of its central place in the operation of the telephone network, is marked by both complexity and reliability. Call control systems will typically require many thousands of person years in development. They will contain millions of lines of high-level code. However they must and do meet reliability requirements that specify switch down time of only a few minutes in forty years.

The required functionality and reliability of call control is a major challenge for Voice over IP (VoIP) systems. VoIP systems are based on Internet standards and technology, which have not previously attempted to satisfy such complex and demanding requirements as those that specify call control. An alternative name often used is called as call processing.

In telecommunication, the term call processing has the following meanings:

The sequence of operations performed by a switching system from the acceptance of an incoming call through the final disposition of the call. See call control for a more complete description.

The end-to-end sequence of operations performed by a network from the instant a call attempt is initiated until the instant the call release is completed.

In data transmission, the operations required to complete all three phases of an information transfer transaction.

Plan 9 from Bell Labs is a distributed operating system, primarily used as a research vehicle. It was developed as the research successor to Unix by the Computing Sciences Research Center at Bell Labs between the mid-1980s and 2002. Plan 9 is most notable for representing all system interfaces, including those required for networking and the user-interface, through the file system rather than specialized interfaces. Plan 9 aims to provide users with a workstation-independent working environment through the use of the 9P protocols. Plan 9 continues to be used and developed in some circles as a research operating system and by hobbyists. The name “Plan 9 from Bell Labs” is a reference to the classic science fiction B-movie Plan 9 from Outer Space

Overview

All resources as files
One of the key features adopted from Unix was the use of the file system to access resources. Before Unix, most operating systems had different mechanisms for accessing different types of devices. For example, the application-programming interface (API) to access a disk drive was vastly different from the API used to send and receive data from a serial port, which in turn was different from the API used to send data to a printer. Unix attempted to remove these distinctions. All device drivers were required to support meaningful read and write operations as a means of control. This lets programmers use utilities like mv and cp to send data from one device to another without being aware of the underlying implementation details.

However, at the time, many key concepts (such as the control of process state) did not seem to map neatly onto files. As new features like Berkeley sockets and the X Window System were added, they were incorporated to exist outside the file system. New hardware features (such as the ability to eject a CD in software) also encouraged the use of hardware-specific control mechanisms like the ioctl system call.

The Plan 9 research project rejected these different approaches. Each Plan 9 program views all available resources, including networking and the user-interface resources (like the window it is running in), as part of a hierarchical file system, rather than specialized interfaces.

Unicode support
Plan 9 uses Unicode throughout the system. UTF-8 was invented by Ken Thompson to be used as the native encoding in Plan 9 and the whole system was converted to general use in 1992. Note that, Plan 9 only supports the codes defined in the Basic Multilingual Plane of Unicode.

target=”_blank”>Die-casting is the process of forcing molten metal under high pressure into mold cavities. Most die-castings are made from nonferrous metals, specifically zinc, copper, and aluminum based alloys, but ferrous metal die-castings are possible. The die casting method is especially suited for applications where a large quantity of small to medium sized parts are needed with good detail, a fine surface quality and dimensional consistency.

This level of versatility has placed die-castings among the highest volume products made in the metalworking industry. In recent years, injection-molded plastic parts have replaced some die-castings because they are cheaper and lighter. Plastic parts are a practical alternative if hardness is not required and little strength is needed.

Advantages of Die-casting

Excellent dimensional accuracy (dependent on casting material, but typically 0.1 mm for the first 2.5 cm (0.005 in. for the first inch) and 0.02 mm for each additional centimeter (0.002 in. for each additional inch).

Smooth cast surfaces (1—2.5 μm (40—100 μin.) rms).

Thinner walls can be cast as compared to sand and permanent mold casting (approximately 0.75 mm (0.030 in.).

Inserts can be cast-in (such as threaded inserts, heating elements, and high strength bearing surfaces).

Reduces or eliminates secondary machining operations.

Rapid production rates.

Casting tensile strength as high as 415 MPa (60 ksi).

Disadvantages of Die-casting

Casting weight must be between 30 grams (1 oz) and 10 kg (20 lb).

Casting must be smaller than 600 mm (24 in.).

High initial cost.

Limited to high-fluidity metals.

Thickest section should be less than 13 mm (0.5 in.).

A large production volume is needed to make this an economical alternative to other processes
