The main aim of yoga is to attain self realization and to break down the barriers that separates one’s individual self from the universal world. The aim or objective of yoga can be attained only once you get control over the physical, mental and spiritual senses. To attain this, one needs to follow the principles of yoga. For now let us discuss on how to attain control over the senses step by step.

Preliminary Aim: The preliminary or the basic objective of Yoga is the physical interpretation. It is to improve the physical health. It can be attained by following certain physical activities which in turn lay foundation for the mental growth. The practice of yogic exercises helps in over coming the limitations of the body. Yoga postures can cure physical ailments, strengthens the bones and muscles and increases energy. The physical fitness shows a strengthening and calming effect on the brain.

Intermediate objective: The next stage after physical perfection is the intermediate stage which involves psychological well being. In this stage, the main aim of Yoga is to harmonize and integrate one’s thoughts, actions, emotions, desires, aims, motives, etc. This process is helpful in discovering the hidden potentials of the brain and the intellect. It frees us from confusion and distress. Once you got total control over your brain and body then you can move to the final state of self realization.

Final Aim: The final goal of yoga is spiritual interpretation. This is called the stage of purification where one knows himself by indwelling his soul. This is also called as self realization. Every person becomes complete only after knowing himself. It doesn’t matter whether he is physically fit or mentally strong, his completeness is achieved only by attaining self realization. It is only through this process that one becomes perfect. In other words one has to completely know his inner self and try to merge in the universal self, while the soul is still in the body.

This kind of transformation from the initial stages of physical interpretation to the final stages of spiritual interpretation is only attained by practicing Yoga and nothing else. Once the final stage is attained one can see the divinity in himself and others as well, which leads to a positive way of living all over the world.

Yoga is an ancient physical discipline which is used to create a balance between body and mind to attain self enlightenment. Yoga typically means ‘union’. Union should be between the body, mind and the soul. Yoga involves different postures by the body which are called as ‘Asanas’, in Sanskrit. It is a set of techniques that helps the human being to become aware of the deepest nature. It does not belong to any religion nor supports any but can be considered as an experimental science of self study.

Depending on the kind of things which were used to do Yoga, it is broadly divided in to six different forms. Let us have a brief look on all the six.

Yoga Of Postures (Hatha Yoga): Hatha yoga is one of the most popular forms of Yoga. It involves a set of techniques which uses different physical forms or postures. Hence it is called as yoga of postures. Hatha yoga mainly focuses on the body since it considers body to be the vehicle of soul. It encourages the union of body and soul and makes the body perfect.

Yoga of Devotion (Bhakthi Yoga): Every religion has their own almighty and follows particular tradition in worshiping him. But Bhakthi Yoga teaches a person to see divinity in every one and every thing, which has been in practice by many Yogis. This yoga helps in developing love, acceptance and tolerance for all.

Yoga of Self Control (Raja Yoga): Raja Yoga is considered as the King of Yoga forms, since it has been practiced by many spiritual and religious people. It teaches how to give respect to ourselves and thus gives a path to attain self mastery. Once you respect yourself you certainly will respect others. It mainly focuses on explaining the Eight Limbs of Yoga.

Yoga of Mind (Gnana Yoga): Gnana Yoga deals with the things related to mind like the wisdom, intellect and the knowledge. Yogis think that those things are important to know the man himself and the limitations of his body. It teaches that an open mind is important to know the spirit.

Yoga of Service (Karma Yoga): Karma yoga considers that the present situation of the man is based on the actions performed by him in the past. Hence it teaches to follow a selfless path which involves actions like good words, good thoughts and good deeds. Its just like changing your attitude towards good, which definitely leads to change in destiny.

Yoga of Rituals( Tantra Yoga) : The last of all the yoga forms is the Tantra yoga. This is the misunderstood path of yoga. All the perceptions according this yoga are always far from truth. It mainly teaches utilizing the rituals to experience the sacred in everything we do. Certain qualities like humility, devotion, dedication, truthfulness should be possessed by all the Tantra yoga practitioners.

These are the six types of yoga forms which are used to attain self enlightenment by unifying body and soul.

A depressed person will have problem of moving. They cannot do regular exercises and will be intolerable. But Yoga exercise, beginning with few three poses a day for few minutes and with correct breathing patterns, will be very comfortable will soon make a person to do more and more.

Yoga exercises will insert pressure on glands and organs, which helps them to producing the soothing, healing chemical balance that is required to feel better. Yoga exercises enhances circulation, stimulating oxygen to brain and to all muscles. The stretching and strengthening postures helps in expelling toxins from the body.

The deep, stimulating breath techniques of Yoga will send huge amounts of fresh oxygen to the brain and other body parts. Oxygen is pumped through the entire system producing new light and strength to the idle parts of the body and mind where depression is remained unseen.

Regular practice of Yoga will protect a person from depression and helps to stay bright-minded, at the same time identifying the signals which depression generates.

Even though practicing yoga is not a method to replace treatment recommended by medical doctor or therapist, it can be used in combination with any prescribed treatment to help in the process of recovery. Yoga is 100% natural and drug free, so there are no chances of drug interactions or harmful side effects. Yoga provides both physical and mental benefits.

The physical exercise of yoga helps in relieving the depression by eliminating the physiological indications of stress and by increasing the levels of particular chemicals in bodies which serve as major player in uplifting our mood.
