Over some years, a roof becomes leaky or damaged and they need to be replaced because it protects interior part of the house from weather conditions and keeps people warm, safe in the house.
These leaks are caused by damage in a particular area, such as cracked or chipped or missing shingles or shakes, or on a flat roof, a blistered or on cracked area. Here the difficulty is to find out the exact location of the damaged area. Sometimes, the cracked area will be so small that we are unable to see and repair it.
Depending on situation, you can determine whether repairing the leaking-roof is simple. The first thing you would need to do is check if there is any possible damage to the roof by water. After finding the leak, if it is close to a chimney or the plumbing vent, it becomes easy to locate the damaged area.
It is easier to you if you locate the damaged area on a rainy day. In the absence of a garret, you should walk off especially on flat roofs. The tools required for this task are a trowel or putty knife, hammer, roofing nails, extra shingles, sealants, plumbing vent boots for replacement, and roof cement.
Then, go onto the house top and inspect the boot or the hole to repair it. If the boot is worn out, remove the old boot from plumbing vent, the vent is commonly made of PVC or cast iron- sticking out the roof. Then pull the rubber boot from around the pipe and replace it with one with the same size. Actually this is a culprit in a roof leak.
If there are small cracks, use a sealant that you can get from market to plug the gaps in the cracked area. This is nothing but a patching. Then, leave it for one to two days for drying. Then, apply a protective coating to seal fully.
