What Is Application Software?

The two major classes of software are application software and system software. System software consists of low level programs and it includes operating systems, compilers, and utilities for managing computer resources. Application software is also called as end-user programs. This software includes database programs, word processors, and spread sheets etc.

Application software is a program that runs on the computer. The good application software is based on the how well it performs the tasks and how easy it is for the users. The term application refers to the application software and its implementation.

Functions of application software:

  • Application software provides high level service such as send or receives email, and browse information archives.
  • The major functions of application software are internet functionality, and client server paradigm.
  • Communication requires a pair of application programmes. Application software initiates the interaction by interacting with protocol software.
  • The client and server both are two applications. Client application actively initiates the contact. Where as the server application passively waits for a contact.
