Translation is an art of transferring the source text in to the required language which is called as target language. Most of the times it is done by humans to protect the literary values of the source text. But, in case of some source texts which does not require any kind of literature or nativity, like the technical statements, manuals of different appliances, some software and so on, machine translation is used.
What is Machine Translation?
Translation of written texts from one language to another using computer programs to deliver equivalent amount of information can be termed as machine translation. At basic levels the machine produces simple substitution of automatic words in one natural language for words in another.
Types of machine translations:
Each and every part of the program executed with the help of machines with out any human interference, is called as automatic translation. If the same translation happens with the combination of machine and man it is called as semi automatic translation. Another method is also there, where the computer delivers the raw translation and the humans need to improve it with some corrections in the languages.
Advantages:
- A computer can do work in a more faster way and thus the translation can be much faster using a machine when compared to men.
- Less Expensive
- Less Effort
- Confidentiality of the content
- Less use of human resource
Disadvantages:
- Lack of quality
- Lack of superior exactness
- Translation distortion and
- Lack of Context
Besides the limitations in machine translations, most of the organizations are using them. Google has reported that promising results were obtained using proprietary statistic machine translation engine. However, it seems that the machine translation system they are currently using is based on highly customized versions.
